BB gun shooter won't stop 'No Kings' protests

On Saturday, March 28, I joined 1,500-plus other people who were on the corners of Bell and Highway 49 here in Auburn participating in the "No Kings" rally. The attendance was the biggest one ever in our little town. The signs we carried varied from funny to thoughtful. They depicted the sign holder's point of view. After speaking to some members of the crowd, it seemed everyone I spoke to was there to protest the administration and most importantly, our president. I met two women I knew who surprised me by being there, as they had never been very political. Both said they had grandsons and were worried about our involvement in Iran. Another woman I know drove down from Grass Valley because she said she couldn't sit home and do nothing. Her exact words were: "If a whole town in Minneapolis can do what they did in ice-cold weather, I can stand for a few hours in solidarity." Unfortunately, around 1:30 in the afternoon, shots were fired from a moving car. A few people were shot with what people described as pellets from a BB gun. Within minutes, there were police investigating and taking statements. They met with the community on Friday, April 3, to give us an update. The fact this shooting happened here in Auburn is still something I cannot comprehend. But if the shooter thinks this will dissuade people protesting, he is mistaken. I spoke to one of the victims and she says she cannot wait to carry a sign again!
