What followed was one of those unexpectedly delightful afternoons that remind you how much hidden character exists right in your own backyard. Founded in 1975, the Fair Oaks Historical Society has spent five decades preserving the story of this Sacramento-area community, collecting artifacts, recording oral histories and even reproducing an original 1900 map of the village. The museum at 10340 Fair Oaks Blvd. is a genuine treasure trove for anyone curious about how this oak-shaded enclave came to be — and it turns out, there is quite a lot to learn.
