Folsom Ranch street to be named after hometown hero

A hometown hero is being honored and memorialized by the City of Folsom with a street in his name. The city recognized Sergeant Tyler Vargas-Andrews during a special event Saturday, April 11, and announced that a street in Folsom Ranch will be named in his honor: Vargas-Andrews Way. The special night was to honor Silver Star families. During the event, Folsom Mayor Justin Raithel presented Vargas-Andrews with the street sign that will soon stand in a new development of Folsom Ranch.Vargas-Andrews is a Folsom High graduate and United States Marine who demonstrated extraordinary courage during evacuation operations in Afghanistan on Aug. 26, 2021. Folsom city officials said Vargas-Andrews' actions helped protect hundreds of American citizens and allies; he was awarded the Silver Star for his valor in combat. Despite suffering life-altering injuries during his service, Vargas-Andrews continues to serve, including advocating for veterans, supporting military families and inspiring others through his resilience. Vargas-Andrews Way will be located on a Folsom Ranch street near a future elementary school and city park and will serve as a lasting tribute to his service and sacrifice, said city officials. Toll Brothers, Blue Star Moms and others in the community worked to help make this recognition possible, according to city officials.
