Folsom crews continue work to repair huge sinkhole

An intersection where a large sinkhole opened in Folsom continues to be closed, several days after it was discovered in the Lexington Hills area. City crews were working to repair and close the huge sinkhole that emerged near the intersection of Prewett and Newington Drives after the region was hit by several days of rain last weekend. Once the sinkhole was reported, city crews immediately closed off the area with barriers and fencing. Detours have been in place in the vicinity for several days to prevent pedestrians and drivers from wandering near the sinkhole. The actual sinkhole is surrounded by fencing, bulldozers and other equipment, and those coming by to check it out now can only see a glimpse. A neighbor in the area told The Folsom Telegraph that before the sinkhole was closed off, it was quite a sight and a bit shocking to see how large and deep it was (the neighbor estimated the hole to be several feet deep). It is unknown how long it will take crews to repair the sinkhole and reopen the area to normal traffic. Until the work is complete, the community is urged to avoid the area and plan extra travel time getting out of the neighborhood if you live in Lexington Hills. City officials say they appreciate the community's patience and cooperation as they work to address the issue safely.
