Train derailment at Roseville's Union Pacific Railyard

A train derailment near the Union Pacific railyard in Roseville caused traffic tie-ups in the area Sunday evening but street closures should re-open by Monday morning's commute. The derailment involved 12 rail cars, according to Roseville Fire, with two of the rail cars becoming involved in fire. The derailment took place on the tracks under the Foothill overpass with one car on fire in that area. Fire crews determined there was no immediate threat to people in the vicinity and worked to quickly put out the blaze. Within an hour, fire crews were able to extinguish the rail car fire under the overpass; no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. Even though crews stopped the immediate emergency of the car fire, they are remaining on scene through the night as they work to "mitigate hazards caused by the incident," according to Roseville Fire officials. Union Pacific reiterated that there were no injuries caused by the incident and no hazardous materials were involved. The Roseville Fire Department reports Foothills Blvd will continue to be closed between Cirby Way and Denio Loop until early Monday morning due to complications from the derailment.
