Roseville school districts: Nearly 13K strong, and growing

With two pre-school sites, 17 elementary schools and four middle schools, one thing for sure is that the Roseville City School District has grown over the years. And with a new elementary school, Winding Creek Elementary, set to open later this year, it will continue to grow. Roseville City School District is one of the top-seven growing districts in the state, as only 369 out of the 1,011 school districts saw enrollment growth. The district teaches about 12,800 students and has more than 1,500 employees. Since 2006-07, enrollment in the school district has increased by 51.1 percent. "We're a growing school district, which is unique to California," said Jessica Hull, executive director of Communication and Community Engagement at the Roseville City School District. "Most districts in the state are closing schools, while we are building schools and hiring new teachers. Our next elementary school opens later this year. Winding Creek will be TK (transitional kindergarten) through fifth grade and will be our first two-story campus." Not only is the school district growing, but its students are also achieving. There are 517 elementary school districts in the state with 19 similar to Roseville with enrollments more than 10,000 and an unduplicated rate above 40 percent. Out of those 19 schools, Roseville ranks first in English Language Arts, first in math, science, English Learner Progress and suspension rate. The district's four middle schools all offer Career Technical Education (CTE) programs and world language. Two schools, Sergeant Elementary and Eich Middle, are International Baccalaureate (IB) schools. All of the district's schools have music and performing arts programs and all 21 schools are California recognized in Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) in either gold or platinum levels, the two highest. The Roseville Joint Union High School District serves 11,300 students and has grown immensely the past 30 years when it has added four high schools. Roseville High School opened in 1912 and it wasn't until Oakmont High School opened in 1966 that there was a second school. Woodcreek High School opened in 1994 followed two years later by Granite Bay High in 1996. Antelope High School opened in 2008 before West Park High opened in 2020. The school district also has Roseville Pathways (Adelante and Independence High School) and Roseville Adult School. Roseville Pathways is the alternative education choice for students who want to learn outside the traditional high school experience. Roseville Adult School provides academics, such as high school diploma, GED preparation, and English as a second language to students. The school district's mission is to ignite innovative and meaningful learning, inspire powerful impact in our communities and prepare all students for multiple paths to success. Like the elementary and middle schools in Roseville, the high schools have also been highly decorated. Just this year, Antelope, Adelante, Roseville and Woodcreek were named California Purple Star Program schools, while Antelope School was named a California Distinguished School. The Purple Star program is a way to publicly recognize and designate schools that demonstrate a commitment to meeting the unique needs of military-connected students and their families. The 2026 California Distinguished Schools recognition program aims to recognize exemplary instructional programs throughout California public schools, the largest public school system in the United States. Over the years, Roseville high schools have earned and been named National Blue Ribbon awards, California gold ribbon schools, CIF state championships, PBIS awards, U.S. News and World Report best high schools, and have Model CTE programs. Oakmont High School is also an International Baccalaureate (IB) school.
