Colfax Council approves zoning code amendment intro

To make the Colfax Municipal Code consistent with the general plan, the city council approved the introduction of an amendment to the zoning code to add the public/quasi public uses during its March 25 meeting. Colfax Planning Consultant Kathy Pease advised city, community and utility uses within Colfax are currently zoned Special Public Services District (SPSD), a designation that does not exist in the city's code. "Therefore to be consistent with the general plan, we're proposing a cleanup that we amend the municipal code to be consistent with the general plan," she said. Pease confirmed the public/quasi public designation would provide for community services and/or education, cultural, administrative and recreational facilities, which could include schools, utility facilities, water and wastewater treatment facilities, community centers and government buildings. According to Pease, there are four properties, making up 95.5 acres, with the SPSD designation: the wastewater treatment plant (23550 Grandview Avenue), the Sierra Vista Community Center (55 Schools Street), the old landfill (8635 Fruitridge Road) and the Veterans Memorial Hall (22 Sunset Avenue). "With this, there'd be no changes to the allowed uses with this zoning district change," Pease told the council. "The zoning map would simply be amended to show the new public/quasi public districts." The council approved the amendment introduction in a unanimous vote. The item is slated to return to a future council meeting for second reading and adoption.
