Vista del Lago wins final series against Bella Vista

Vista del Lago's baseball team finished off its regular season by winning two-of-three games from Bella Vista last week, winning its fifth-of-seven series in the Capital Valley Conference. The Eagles finished league play with an 11-7 record and in third place behind the only two teams that beat them in a series, Rio Americano and Woodcreek. "I felt we were in every game in league play," Vista coach Jim Bazor said. "Our goal was to win the league and we fell a little short, but I'm very happy with how we played this year and most importantly how we finished the season. We are focused on the playoffs and looking to make a deep run." Vista opened the series against Bella Vista on Thursday with 3-2 win in eight innings. The Eagles scored two runs in the third inning. Colton More, Jacoby Jones and Nat Ha hit three consecutive singles with More scoring on Ha's base hit. Ethan Rhee later singled in Ha for Vista's second run. Bella Vista tied the game in the fifth inning before the Eagles won it in the top of the eighth. Ha doubled, moved to third on a fly ball by Logan Shamblin and scored on Russell Snyder's double. The Broncos threatened in the bottom of the inning, as they put their first two runners on and moved them up to second and third with one out. Lucas Tuggle intentionally walked the next batter to load the bases before striking out the last two batters to give the Eagles the win. After losing on Friday, 5-1, the Eagles wrapped up the series on Saturday with a solid 7-0 victory. Jones threw the first six innings and allowed two hits before Ryan Lafortune and David Wright came in to finish the game. Nine Vista hitters combined for 10 hits, as DJ Kubik had two and also drove in two runs. Mason Lemm, Shamblin, Connor Gastelum and Snyder drove in runs, while Asher Taylor scored twice. Vista will be in the playoffs when the postseason begins next week.
