Placer's Moore claims 300 hurdles at Meet of Champions

Athletes from Placer, Del Oro and Bear River turned in strong performances last Saturday at the Sacramento Meet of Champions at American River College, facing good competition from across Northern California. Placer was led by senior Logan Moore, who captured the varsity 300-meter hurdles title in a personal-best 39.42 seconds. Moore also placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles, also in a personal-best at 14.9. Stanford-bound senior Cooper Barr placed second in the open 800 meters, running a 1:53.44 for his best time of the season. On the girls' side, two Placer runners set personal records in the 1600. Junior Luca Bourgault placed sixth in the varsity race in 5:04.17, while senior Micah Redding broke five minutes in the open division, finishing eighth in 4:59.25. The Hillmen also fielded a varsity 4x400 relay team of Giorgia Carletti, Redding, Bourgault and Lilli Fjelstad, which finished 14th in 4:21.81. In the field events, Brookelyn Dunkle cleared 4 feet, 11 inches to place seventh in the open high jump, and Lumina Bertelli placed 17th in the varsity discus with a throw of 103-4. Del Oro's top highlight came in the sprints, where senior Josiah Cain placed third in the varsity 100 with a personal-best 10.9. Cain also helped the Golden Eagles to a fourth-place finish in the 4x100 relay alongside Brodie Sears, Emilio Preciado and Caden Clark, clocking 43.24. Clark added an eighth-place finish in the 200 at 22.73, and sophomore Alden Reck dipped under two minutes in the 800 with a time of 1:59.79. In the distance events, junior Ethan Kelly placed seventh in the open 3200 with a personal-best 9:18.43. For the Del Oro girls, Kendall McLemore competed in the varsity 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 17.1 seconds. Wyatt Bookout turned in one of Bear River's top performances, clearing 13 feet, 3 inches to place third in the varsity pole vault. For the girls, Rachel Sartori finished third in the open pole vault, clearing a personal-best 12-0. Also, Thomas Billingsley placed 20th in the varsity shot put at 40-4.5.
