Agrees with letter writer

I agreed with what Branden Culp shared in his Reader Input, "Leadership means showing up, not staying silent when kids are targeted" (Lincoln News Messenger, May 1, page A4). Standing up for kids and providing emotional support to children who are being bullied, demeaned does define leadership. However, I would suggest an important area not spoken to is adult behavior as a contributor to school-age children's poor choice of words and actions. Unfortunately, children will present and mirror inappropriate behaviors shown on social media, adults at school board meetings and by our elected leaders at the very highest levels of government. Adults in a public setting who demonize other points of view, threaten those who disagree and seemingly show no internal discipline or remorse for their behavior is not a good example for children. Branden is so right, we need to show leadership by standing up for children. We also need to confront adults who manifest threatening and accusatory behaviors in a public settings and "demonize" lifestyles in public settings that doesn't mirror their beliefs.
