Voters approve Natoma Station assessment

A proposed assessment that will go toward important maintenance in the Natoma Station area was passed resoundingly by residents. The votes were counted on April 29 at Folsom City Hall, a process that was open to the public. City officials said final results show the measure passed with 71.84 percent in favor of the assessment. Approval of the assessment for the Natoma Station Landscaping & Lighting District comes after a step-by-step ballot measure process required by Proposition 218, which culminated in a vote by residents. Final steps include approval by the Folsom City Council. The approved assessment will support the ongoing maintenance of neighborhood landscaping, lighting, irrigation, small parks and other assets within the district. City officials say the district has faced funding challenges in recent years as maintenance costs have outpaced existing assessment revenue. With voter approval secured, the Folsom City Council is expected to consider adopting the final engineer's report and confirming the new assessment at its upcoming meeting on May 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 50 Natoma Street.
