Folsom in top 10 list of fastest growing cities in California

If you thought there were more people in Folsom lately, it wasn't in your head. The City of Folsom continues to be one of the fastest growing cities in the state. A new report released by the California Department of Finance shows that Folsom added 2,001 new residents in the past year with an estimated population of 95,680 as of the first of the year. The California Department of Finance released its new statewide population estimates and housing data. Folsom added 2,001 new residents, bringing the estimated total population to 95,680 as of January 1, 2026. This represents a 2.1 percent increase in population growth. The continuing growth of Folsom comes in contrast to the state of California as a whole; according to the report, California saw a decline in population of about 54,000. Representatives from Governor Newsom's office attribute the decline in the state's population to federal policies. "A full year of restrictive federal policy changes cut legal international migration to California by more than half in 2025 and drove a slight decline (less than 1/7th of 1%) in California's overall population, according to new data released today by the California Department of Finance," said Governor's representatives. "Absent these changes, California's population as of January 1st would have seen a slight increase of 66,000 over the same period. Because of these federal changes, the state experienced a small decline of 54,000. The 0.14-percent decline to 39,593,000 marks the first year of population loss after three consecutive years of population increases following the COVID-19 pandemic." Among cities with populations over 30,000, Folsom ranks #9 in the state. Nearby Roseville was ranked #6 on that list. Folsom also ranked #7 among cities under 300,000 for the largest numeric population increase. The report also shows Folsom's housing stock increased from 34,581 to 35,837 units, which was a 3.6% increase. This number outpaced the statewide housing growth rate, which was 0.77%.
