Folsom High School goes on lockdown after threat

There were tense moments at some Folsom schools on Tuesday, May 5, after an anonymous caller reportedly made threats of violence toward Folsom High School just after noon. There were also reports swirling that a gunman may be present in the area. Folsom Police dispatched all available officers to the school when those reports came in and the school went into lockdown, as did several other schools in the city out of precaution. After a thorough sweep of Folsom High and the surrounding area, police determined there was no threat. During the lockdown, classroom lights were turned off and students were instructed to take cover under their desks. One parent, Jessica Porter, was picking up her son for an appointment and happened to be outside Folsom High when the school was in lockdown. She told The Folsom Telegraph students were understandably nervous during the lockdown due to not knowing if the threat was real or fake; her son kept her updated via text while she waited outside. Once police determined there was no threat, the lockdowns were lifted; school principals kept parents updated on the situation and let them know the lockdowns had been lifted and students were going to be dispersed to lunch break. Folsom Police said the incident remains under investigation and it may be related to similar hoax threats.
