May is Motorcycle Awareness Month

As the weather gets nicer and motorcycles are being pulled out of garages to get ready for summer travels and leisurely rides, Lincoln Police want to remind drivers that May is Motorcycle Awareness Month. "Last year, a significant number of injury crashes involved motorcycles across California. Many of these collisions were preventable with better awareness and safe driving habits," Lincoln Police commented. Lincoln Police remind drivers to look twice before changing lanes or making turns, as motorcycles are smaller and can be easy to miss; check blind spots carefully, especially at intersections; as well as be patient, don't follow too closely and allow extra stopping distance. Additionally, LPD reminds motorcycle riders to: Ride defensively and assume you are not seen. Wear proper safety gear, including a DOT approved helmet and protective clothing. Obey speed limits and traffic laws. Stay visible. Make sure your lights are working and position yourself where drivers can clearly see you. "We all share the responsibility to keep our roads safe. Whether you're behind the wheel or on two wheels, stay alert, stay focused and look out for one another," Police commented.
