Baseball playoffs: 12 area teams still standing through first round

DIVISION I No. 11 Enochs 4, No. 6 Folsom 3 (9 inn.) Folsom's season ended in extra innings as No. 11 Enochs pulled out a 4-3 win in nine. Enochs jumped ahead early with two runs in the first before the Bulldogs answered with single runs in the fourth and fifth to tie it. After a scoreless stretch, Enochs broke through with two runs in the top of the ninth. Folsom scratched one back in the bottom half but couldn't complete the comeback. Enochs advances to face No. 3 Franklin on Friday. No. 7 Oak Ridge 4, No. 10 Pleasant Grove 3 Oak Ridge walked it off in dramatic fashion, edging Pleasant Grove 4-3 after a back-and-forth finish. The Trojans built a 3-0 lead before Pleasant Grove rallied to tie it in the sixth. In the seventh, left fielder Hudson Vetter cut down the potential go-ahead run at the plate to keep it even. Oak Ridge capitalized in the bottom half, loading the bases before a bunt attempt led to an error that allowed the winning run to score. The Trojans advance to face No. 2 McClatchy on Friday. No. 4 Granite Bay 9, No. 13 Mountain House 0 Granite Bay rolled into the second round with a 9-0 shutout of Mountain House, scoring in all but one inning. Noah Paul drove in two runs, while Kenny Devault and Isaac Schroeder each had two hits. Drew Galbaugh pitched a one-hitter with seven strikeouts. The win marked a milestone for longtime head coach Pat Esposito, who earned his 500th career victory at Granite Bay. DIVISION II No. 12 Rocklin 5, No. 5 Woodcreek 0 Rocklin rode a dominant pitching performance to shut out Woodcreek. Derric Stephens started and combined with Andrew Hancock on a two-hitter with seven strikeouts. The Thunder scored a run in the second inning and two in the third, then added two insurance runs in the seventh. Rocklin finished with five hits, while Woodcreek committed five errors. No. 3 Rodriguez 8, No. 14 Whitney 5 Rodriguez did its damage early, scoring four runs in the third and four in the fourth to build an 8-1 lead. The Wildcats collected 12 hits but were undone by five errors. Tavin Schmidt drove in three runs for Rodriguez, while Nateo Victorio had two hits and an RBI. Nick Schikore settled in on the mound, allowing three runs over five innings to secure the win. No. 6 Del Oro 5, No. 5 Atwater 4 Del Oro answered Atwater's three-run second with steady offense, scoring in the first, third and fifth inning to edge out a 5-4 win. Rusty Ducharme went 3 for 3 with two RBIs, while Crosby Pilgrim had two hits. Jackson Gray earned the win, striking out seven over five innings. Atwater managed just three hits, with Cooper Lanum providing the bulk of the production with a three-run homer. No. 2 West Park 10, No. 15 Stagg 0 (6 inn.) West Park rolled past Stagg in a run-rule victory, combining dominant pitching with timely hitting. Mason Zobel and Trevor Evangelho teamed up on a one-hitter, striking out nine. At the plate, Aiden Joosten led the way with two hits and three RBIs, while Ethan Silva and Jesse Palmer each drove in two. The Panthers advance to face No. 10 Laguna Creek on Friday. DIVISION III No. 2 Vista del Lago 9, No. 15 River Valley 1 Vista del Lago cruised into the second round with a 9-1 win over River Valley. Ethan Rhee homered, Colton More collected three hits, and Russell Snyder scored three runs to pace the offense. On the mound, Jacoby Jones and Carson Kocina combined to allow just two hits. Vista will host No. 7 El Capitan on Friday. DIVISION IV No. 1 Roseville 6, No. 17 Beyer 1 Top-seeded Roseville opened with a 6-1 win behind a strong outing from Tyler Ritter, who struck out 11 over five innings while allowing just two hits. Jacob Welch drove in three runs and Austin Chang had two hits. The Tigers advance to face No. 9 Vanden, a 5-2 winner over No. 8 Oakmont. No. 9 Vanden 5, No. 8 Oakmont 2 Vanden jumped out early with two runs in the first and never trailed, adding insurance in the fifth and sixth. Oakmont answered with two runs in the third but managed just three hits the rest of the way. Vanden finished with five hits and created pressure on the bases with seven steals. Matthew Aguas drove in both runs for Oakmont, but the Vikings were limited to three hits and couldn't overcome five errors. No. 3 Placer 1, No. 14 Rosemont 0 The Hillmen survived a scare with a walk-off victory in the bottom of the seventh to down Rosemont in a 1-0 pitchers' duel. Placer managed five hits with Jack Addison collecting two, including the walk-off single that sent the Hillmen to the next round. Gavin Otis pitched a three-hitter and struck out nine. No. 7 Twelve Bridges 8, No. 10 Pioneer 1 Twelve Bridges broke it open with a five-run fourth to pull away from Pioneer in an 8-1 win. The Rhinos collected 13 hits with Andrew Pocasangre and Giovanni Gomez each recording three, while Luke Nilsson added a home run and two RBIs. Twelve Bridges also scored two runs in the first inning. Pioneer managed six hits but struck out 10 times and left 10 runners on base. DIVISION V No. 1 Lincoln 7, No. 16 Dixon 4 Lincoln answered Dixon's four-run fourth with steady offense, scoring in four innings to avoid an upset. The Zebras plated three runs in the third and two more in the fourth. Tyler Silva led the way with two hits, including a triple, while Gavin Gnech drove in two runs. Dixon finished with nine hits, including three by Isaac Santos, but couldn't hold the lead after the fourth. DIVISION VI No. 5 Colfax 8, No. 12 Ben Holt College Prep 3 The Falcons broke it open with a six-run third to erase a 1-0 deficit. Cole Hudson's go-ahead two-run double sparked the rally, while Jaimeson Rawlins added two doubles and two RBIs. Jono Cleek homered and four players recorded multi-hit games as Colfax totaled 10 hits. Paolo O'Brien struck out six over 5 1/3 innings to earn the win. No. 3 Bear River 1, No. 14 Buckingham Charter 0 Bear River scored in the third inning and made it stand in a 1-0 win over Buckingham Charter. The Bruins managed five hits, with Cooper Lunsford and Kaden Nicholls each collecting two, while Charlie Smith scored the lone run. Bear River also stole five bases. Buckingham Charter was limited to two hits and stranded four runners. DIVISION VII No. 9 Millennium 10, No. 8 Foresthill 3 Millennium pulled away late, scoring four runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to defeat Foresthill 10-3. The teams traded runs early, with Millennium leading 3-2 after the third and 4-3 after four before breaking it open. Foresthill finished with six hits, led by Abe Robenolt's two, but committed four errors and allowed 12 walks. The Wildfires also left 11 runners on base. No. 5 Valley Christian 19, No. 12 Golden Sierra 2 (5 inn.) The Lions scored four runs in the second, seven in the third and eight in the fourth. Hudson Gray had three hits, three runs and two RBIs, while Domminic Eyster and Nathan Yuen each added two hits and two runs. Eleven players recorded RBIs.
