Del Oro, Whitney split SFL title

The 2026 prep softball regular season wrapped up Wednesday with several league races still undecided entering the final day. One of the most compelling came in the Sierra Foothill League, where Del Oro and Whitney picked up wins to share the league title, each with a 12-2 record. The Wildcats are projected as the top seed in Division I and the Golden Eagles are projected as a No. 4 seed in Division II for the playoffs. Sac-Joaquin Section playoff brackets will be released Friday afternoon with the first round starting May 13. Del Oro 9, Granite Bay 1 — After Granite Bay struck first in the opening inning, Del Oro responded immediately and took control. The Golden Eagles scored in each of the first three innings, then broke it open with a four-run fifth. Emma Johnson went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs for Del Oro, while Macey Davis homered and drove in three runs. Chloe Champas had two hits as Del Oro finished with nine hits, including three doubles and two long balls. Del Oro was just as sharp in the circle. The trio of Karis Herstam, Mikayla Finn and K. Popovski combined to allow just one unearned run on six hits while striking out eight. Whitney 5, Rocklin 0 — The Wildcats broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the sixth for a road shutout. Whitney scratched across a run in the first, then leaned on its pitching until the offense created separation. Kaitlyn Johnson and Sidney Kleiner had three hits apiece, while Lulu Im drove in two runs. The Wildcats finished with eight hits. Pitcher Taylor Cordell tossed a five-hit shutout and struck out five. Rocklin stranded six runners. The Thunder finished third in the SFL and are heading into the postseason as winners of eight of their last 10.
