Placer County receives $1 million in federal funds for key traffic light project

Placer County officials gladly accepted a $1 million check in federal funds from Congressman Kevin Kiley recently, which will help support the installation of three new stoplights on Baseline Road, an important project they say will increase traffic flow and safety in that area. On Wednesday May 6, Congressman Kiley presented Placer County Supervisors Shanti Landon and Bonnie Gore along with Public Works Director Derek Gade with the big $1 million check for the traffic project. The project supports new stoplights and left-turn lanes at the intersections of Baseline Road and Locust Road as well as Riego Road and South Pleasant Grove Blvd. Currently, those intersections are controlled by stop signs. Placer County officials predict the installation of left-turn lanes and traffic lights will decrease wait times and traffic from about 90 seconds to 17 seconds and will also improve safety in the area. The project is a partnership between the Placer County Department of Public Works, City of Roseville and Sutter County.
