Oakmont's girls track team wins PVL title, boys finish third

Oakmont's varsity girls' track and field team is the Pioneer Valley League champions, as they took first in the PVL championships held May 1. The girls' team scored 202 points, finishing well in front of second-place Wheatland, who scored 94. The Oakmont boys' team took third place. The girls' team had 11 league champions, including the two athletes named the Most Valuable Players. Devyn Chambers, who won the 100 meters, 200 meters, long jump and triple jump, was the field MVP, while Amy Geluk was named the track MVP, as she won the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, high jump and also ran on the winning 4x400-meter relay team along with Jenna Rothlisberger, Alana Bodenhausen, and Gracie Grant. Bodenhausen was also the league champion in the 800 meters. Oakmont also won two other relays: the 4x100 (Rothlisberger, Mariah Williams, Grant, Katelynn Widdowson) and the 4x800 (Ava Fields, Katelyn Ho, May Millan, and Bodenhausen). The top-five finishers qualify for the Division 4 Section trials on Saturday at Oakmont. Those athletes who qualified include Grant (100, second place, 200, third place), Williams (100, third, 200, second), Widdowson (100, fifth), Rothlisberger (200, fourth, 400, second), Ho (400, fifth), Millan (800, third, 1,600, third, 3,200, fourth), Fields (3,200, third), Amber Sbragia (300 hurdles, fifth), Izzy Peters (high jump, third, pole vault, second, long jump, second) and Vanessa Lacap (long jump, fifth). On the boys' side, Oakmont had four league champions, as Caleb Hernandez won the 1,600 and 3,200-meter races, while Malachi Alexander claimed the 110 and 300 hurdle races. The boys' 4x800-meter relay team took second with Hernandez, Jaciel Garcia, Neil Ponseti and Miles Guth running. Guth also placed third in the 800, Ponseti took third in the 1,600 and Sam Patterson finished third in the 3,200. Guth and Ponseti also finished third on the boys' 4x400-meter relay team along with Lennox Bennett and Jackson Keim. Keim and Bennett also ran on the fourth place 4x100-meter relay team along with Joshua Montes and Preston Carr. Bennett finished fourth in the 400 meters, Alexander was fourth in the long jump, while Justin Coyle finished fourth in the pole vault. Oakmont's final qualifiers were Keim, who placed fifth in the 400 and Caleb Fischel, who finished fifth in the discus.
