Granite Bay, Roseville, Valley Christian advance

Granite Bay, Roseville and Valley Christian all advanced in the Sac-Joaquin Section baseball playoffs, while West Park was upset in the Division 2 bracket. In Division 1, Granite Bay (18-12) fell behind Turlock in the top of the first inning, 2-0, something that's been happening a lot to the team recently. However, what hasn't been happening is a quick comeback, which the Grizzlies did today by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Andrew Jones was hit by a pitch and advanced all the way to third on an error on a pickoff attempt by Turlock's first baseman. Jones then scored on Ryan Miller's basehit. Isaac Schroeder then singled and Miller advanced to third on a flyout from Derek Asnicar. Chris Cruz then singled in Miller to put the Grizzlies in front, 3-2, after one inning. The Grizzlies scored twice more in the third inning when Asnicar singled and Lukas Franco doubled to put runners on second and third for Kenny DeVault who drove both runners in with a single. Turlock scored two runs off of Brendan Jones in the sixth inning, but Jones struck out the last batter of the inning to get out of the inning. Cole Griffin pitched the seventh and earned the save for the Grizzlies. Granite Bay advances to the semifinals where they will play St. Mary's in a three-game series beginning Tuesday. Division 2 - West Park (24-6), the No. 2 seed in Division 2, was upset by Laguna Creek, the tenth seed, 6-3. The Cardinals scored five runs in the top of the third inning to take a 6-1 lead. The Panthers only managed one more run in the bottom of the third and fourth innings. In the bottom of the first inning, Jayden McNeal tripled and scored on Ethan Silva's fly out before Ayden Deome hit a solo home run in the third. West Park's final run in the fourth inning came when Ryan Alemi walked and scored on Deome's sacrifice fly. Division 4 - Roseville (24-4), the top seed in Division 4, defeated Vanden, 6-2, to advance to the semifinals. Trailing 2-1 after 5 ½ innings, the Tigers rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ben Jordan tripled to start the inning and Jacob Welch followed with a double to quickly tie the score at 2-2. Preston Clubber singled before Welch scored on a wild pitch to put Roseville in front for good, 3-2. Ashton Chang walked before Devin Johnson's double scored two more runs. Jude Navarro scored the team's final run on a sacrifice fly by Austin Chang. Dustin Holcomb followed Ethan Gustus on the mound as the two combined to allow only two runs on five hits. Roseville now advances to face fourth seed East Union in a three-game series starting Tuesday in Roseville. Division 7 - Valley Christian (16-10) scored five runs in the first inning and allowed only two hits to Leroy Greene Academy, as the fifth-seeded Lions upset the No. 4 seed, 7-1. Leroy Greene Academy committed six errors, which hurt their cause. In the first, Valley Christian's first two batters, Kurt Haase and Domminic Eyster both reached on errors with Haase scoring on the error on Eyster's ball which he put in play. Eyster then scored on a hit from Max Abbott. David Harris followed with an RBI double before Harris scored on another error by Leroy Greene. Jack Raby then knocked in Nathan Yuen for the fifth run of the inning. Eyster drove in Valley Christian's sixth run and the seven scored on an error. Zach Pritchard and Raby combined to allow only two hits to Leroy Greene. Valley Christian will play a three-game series with Vacaville Christian beginning on Wednesday.
