One Book, One Coast returns with guest author George Takei

This month, the Lincoln Public Library is proud to join over 200 library systems across California, Oregon and Washington for the inaugural One Book, One Coast community reading initiative. This event invites local readers to join thousands of others along the Pacific to read and discuss the powerful graphic memoir, "They Called us the Enemy," by actor, author and activist George Takei. Written by George Takei, Justin Eisinger and Steven Scott, and illustrated by Harmony Becker, "They Called us the Enemy" is a first-person account of Takei's childhood spent imprisoned within American concentration camps during World War II. As a child, Takei was one of 125,000 Japanese Americans unjustly incarcerated by the U.S government. Takei's memoir dives deep into his family's journey through the camps, his father's strong faith, and how these life experiences shaped his childhood and lifelong commitments to civil rights and social justice.
