Vista has several qualifiers for section track & field championships Saturday

Vista del Lago will have several track and field athletes competing Saturday in the Division 2 Sac-Joaquin Section track and field championships held at Hughes Stadium at Sac City College. These athletes qualified for the finals on Tuesday during the trials held at Vista del Lago. Four athletes qualified in multiple individual events: Brenna Mannion won the 3,200-meter run during the finals held Tuesday, posting a time of 10:37.89, and on Saturday will run the 1,600 meters. Colin Lund qualified in the 200 and 400 meters, as he posted times of 22:12 and 49.06, respectively. Madeleine Hess qualified in both the shot put (31-1.25) and discus (115-7) while Kyron Gulley qualified in both the long jump (20-5.75) and triple jump (44-2.75). In the finals of the 3,200 meters, Vista's Rocco Jerwers placed eighth in 9:56.74. Other Vista athletes who qualified in single individual events include Dylan Lee (300 hurdles - 42.61), Madison Nguyen (100 - 12:93), Reid Blake (800 - 1:58.41), Mason Hooey (pole vault - 12-6), Madelyn Shaw (triple jump - 33-3.50), Valeriya Fomecheva (triple jump - 32-7.50), Sean Gottstein (high jump - 5-10) and Ben Sanderson (discus - 120-9). Vista also had several relay teams qualify for the Division 2 finals on Saturday. Both the boys' and the girls' 4x400-meter relay teams made it. The girls' team of Mannion, Fomecheva, Kelsey Brooks and Matlin O'Brien (4:14.52) and the boys team of Hooey, Lund, Collin Mannion and Gulley (3:25.68) qualified. The boys' 4x100-meter relay team also qualified, as Mannion, Lund, Areeb Nayeem and Drake Menezes posted a time of 43.62. One relay, the 4x800-meter, was a final. Vista's boys' team of Daniel Wong, Matthis Lecina, Teddy Beavers and Asher Chang placed seventh with a time of 8:33.52. The girls' team of Aubree Benoit, Veena Vadivelu, Stella Xiao and Fomicheva placed fifth with a time of 11:19.29. Both teams have an outside chance of qualifying for the Masters meet next week.
