West Park, Roseville ousted from softball playoffs

West Park (16-5) varsity softball team jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning over Tracy on Friday and took a 6-5 lead in the top of the eighth inning, but the top-seeded Bulldogs came roaring back and scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning to win the game, 7-5, and advance in the Division 2 playoffs. Tracy will host No. 4 seed Elk Grove on Tuesday with the winner advancing to the Sac-Joaquin Section championship game on May 23. West Park gave Tracy everything they could have wanted and more. Jolene White walked to lead off the game and later scored on Katie Barber's double. A couple batters later, Jenna Missio doubled and knocked in three runs to give the Panthers a 4-0 lead. Tracy scored one run in the bottom of the third inning, but West Park answered immediately with a run in the top of the fourth when Jolene White singled in Maya Haugsven. With the bases loaded and one out, however, the Panthers couldn't score anymore runs. Tracy scored three in the bottom of the fourth inning and added one more in the fifth to tie the game at 5-5. In the top of the eighth, White again came up with the big hit, a double, which scored Haugsven to put West Park in front, 6-5. Tracy won it in the bottom of the inning with two runs. With one out and a runner on first, a West Park error allowed a run to score to tie the game before Taylor Sansaver got her third hit of the game to drive in the winning run. In other playoff action in Division 4, Roseville (15-12-2), the seventh seed, led No. 2 seed Central Catholic 3-1 in the middle of the third inning, but the Raiders scored three runs to take a 4-3 lead and never looked back, as they tacked on six more runs in the fifth inning and went on to win the game 10-3. Kayla Robles had two hits to lead Roseville.
