Granite Bay wins D1 section tennis championship for fourth straight year

Granite Bay's boys tennis team claimed the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I championship for the fourth straight season. The Grizzlies defeated Davis 5-4 on May 14; however, the match wasn't really that close. The Grizzlies won the first five singles matches out of the gate and then having the match wrapped up, reworked its lineup so some of the graduating seniors could play in their last match. Winning matches for the Grizzlies were Arad Hosseini 6-2, 4-0 (retired), Aditya Srikrishna Dandamudi 6-4, 6-4, Saketh Patibandala 6-0, 6-0, Julian Iordache 6-4, 6-3 and Andrey Terokhin 6-0, 6-2. "It was a great win and we displayed our dominance over the section by taking the win out of the gates," Granite Bay coach Rusty Mendoza said. "This year's team finished a perfect 19-0, while capturing our fourth consecutive section championship. Beyond the results, this group distinguished itself through outstanding character, camaraderie and a genuine love for competing together every day. The team created a culture built on accountability, selflessness, resilience and having fun while pursuing excellence. It was an unforgettable season led by an exceptional group of young men who represented our school with pride both on and off the court. "We will see three seniors leave their marks and legacy on the team, as Yash Amin (UC Riverside, pre-med), Aditya Dandamudi (UC Berkeley, Finance/Econ) and Aayan Patel (Duke, pre-med) all displayed the true Grizzly spirit of what it means to be a student athlete."
