American flag again flies high over Lake Natoma

A regal symbol of Folsom's patriotism and a precursor to Memorial Day is again flying high. A huge American flag has been installed over the historic truss bridge, an annual event before Memorial Day and a cherished visual the community has come to look forward to each year. The yearly raising of the flag on the bridge is a collaboration and labor of love between Folsom Public Works and Clark Verkler of Dokken Engineering. Volunteering his time each year, Verkler uses his stealth climbing expertise (and no doubt, courage) to help raise the flag on the truss bridge. The city of Folsom published dynamic pictures of the event showing Verkler on the bridge and the process of raising the flag, along with the stunning end result: a huge vibrant flag flying proudly over the picturesque Lake Natoma. This special tradition occurs each spring; the flag will fly over the lake through Veterans Day.
