Placer K9 retires after significant career

A bittersweet retirement ceremony was held for K9 Ruger with the Placer County Sheriff's Office recently. For nearly 8 years, Ruger served alongside Deputy Rigel as an apprehension and narcotics detection K9 for the Placer County Sheriff's Office. During his career, Ruger helped remove more than 32 pounds of fentanyl and 25 pounds of methamphetamine from local communities. He also conducted 11 physical apprehensions and led to countless surrenders, said the Placer County Sheriff's Office. In a social media post, the Sheriff's Office honored K9 Ruger and praised him for his loyalty and work ethic. "Ruger's impact goes far beyond statistics. He helped protect lives, remove dangerous individuals from our streets, and stood beside his partner with loyalty and courage every single day." said officials. Now, Ruger is trading in his work harness for toys, belly rubs and family time. Deputy Rigel is now moving on to the Sheriff's Office Air Operations Unit with Falcoln 30. On his final day, K9 Ruger was honored over the dispatch radio with his final 10-10, as his longtime partner Deputy Rigel embraced him. After, a crowd of K9 Ruger's friends and co-workers applauded as he took his first steps into retirement after a long distinguished career.
