Meadow Vista Friendly Neighbors calendar busy; Pioneer Day is June 7

The Meadow Vista Friendly Neighbors Club's annual Easter See's Candies Sale was a great success this year – we actually sold out of candy! This is an important fundraiser for our club and we are very grateful to our wonderful community for its support. Thanks to each of you for stopping by to say "Hello" and buying delicious See's candy or making a cash donation (which many of you did) – the generosity of this amazing community is unmatched! We are also grateful to Holiday Market and its manager, Joel, for allowing us to "set up shop" in front of the market and for being so supportive of our efforts throughout the year. In partnership with the Meadow Vista Lions Club, we are proud to announce there will be free swim days at the Community Pool again this summer. The free swim days will be from 1-4 p.m. on the following Wednesdays: June 10, 17 and 24; July 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29; and Aug. 5. Stop by the pool and cool off this summer. In May, the Meadow Vista Friendly Neighbors proudly presented scholarships to two worthy, in-need Colfax High School students to help them as they pursue higher education at a college or trade school. As in past years, the Meadow Vista Friendly Neighbors will participate in the Meadow Vista Pioneer Day festivities on June 7. We will march in the parade and staff a booth in the Meadow Vista Community Park. We will hold an exciting raffle for some lovely prizes. Please stop by our booth to say hello and sign up for the raffle. We are grateful we have been able to support the Wellness Center at Weimar Hills Middle School this past school year. This program benefits students who need a helping hand and we will continue to support it as long as the Wellness Center is available for the students. We are excited to continue our commitment to the school libraries at Sierra Hills and Weimar Hills. This year, we assisted the librarian during the fall and spring book fairs. It is gratifying to see how excited these children get when selecting a new book. We have established a fund to help purchase a book for those students who have limited financial resources. We are committed to encouraging the youngsters' love of reading and are delighted to help our school librarians promote student literacy. Community members interested in our work are invited and encouraged to join us in our efforts to serve our wonderful community. You are welcome to attend our meetings on the fourth Wednesday of each month in the Meadow Vista Community Center. A brown bag lunch and social time begins at 11:30 a.m. with the regular meeting starting at noon.
