Placer County honored for 175th anniversary

Placer County received a special resolution honoring the county's 175th anniversary during the Board of Supervisors' meeting Tuesday. Placer County was established on April 25, 1851, during the Gold Rush era, from portions of Sutter and Yuba counties. Bryanna Ryan, museums administrator for Placer, shared in March "Placer" comes from the type of mining that was utilized in the area using water and the type of golf that was here. The resolution was presented by Assemblymembers Heather Hadwick and Joe Patterson. "We have a resolution to present to the board and county, and just thank you for all of your work and thank you for creating and maintaining and encouraging a county and communities that thrive in Northern California," Hadwick said. "... Lived here for a long time now and, you know, it continues to be a place that people continue to move here," Patterson said. "And they're not just moving here just because it's cheaper. They're moving here for the quality of life that we have here …" The board thanked the assemblymembers for the resolution and their work and collaboration with Placer. The board received one comment from former District 3 Supervisor Jim Holmes, whose family has lived in Placer County since 1853. "I just wanted to represent some of the pioneer families that have lived in Placer County," Holmes said. "... Thank you for doing this. It's a really great county, and I'm so pleased that we're able to celebrate our 175th anniversary, and I hope to see you in 25 years." Following the comments, Hadwick and Patterson presented the board with the resolution and commemorated the occasion with a photo.
