Del Oro graduate lands reporter job back home with ABC10

Robbie Reynold was willing to leave the nest after college and grow his television wings around the country. Now he's home, having earned a position as a reporter with ABC10, and he plans to stay. "I want to be the best anchor/reporter Sacramento has ever seen," Reynold said Wednesday on a bright, clear morning at Del Oro High School, where he graduated in 2009. "This is my home. I want to stay here long term." After graduating early from UC Davis with a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Reynold hit the road, landing his first gig as a crime reporter, followed by a promotion to weekend anchor, with KPAX in Missoula, Montana. Known as Robbie Enos growing up in Granite Bay, he now goes by Reynold – his middle name – in his TV career. Reynold moved on to WAFB in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as a Sunday morning anchor/reporter, followed by a reporter/weekend anchor stint with KKTV in Colorado Springs. Reynold's most recent stop was at KVOA in Tucson, Arizona, where he was main anchor. When his contract came up with KVOA, with his entire family in the Sacramento area and about to become an uncle, Reynold decided it was time to come home. His first day at ABC10 was July 6, and his first story flying solo was to cover copper wire theft from a trampoline park in Citrus Heights. He also served as an anchor last weekend. "That's kind of my specialty, breaking news and crime stories, wildfire coverage," Reynold said. "It's great. Personally, just to be back with my family is the main thing, that's the No. 1 thing. But also getting to report in this community, my dad gets to watch me on his big-screen TV. That's priceless. That's a life goal I achieved. I already know the community. I already know where everything is." There was a time when Reynold wanted to be an author, until deciding he "didn't want to be stuck in a dark room for hours on end writing." It was during his middle school years at Franklin Elementary that Reynold thought about journalism. He wasn't sure if he wanted to go into print or TV – several "Robbie Enos" bylines appeared in Roseville Press Tribune sports stories in the early 2010s – but his decision was made when he interned under sportscaster (and Super Bowl champion) Del Rodgers at KCRA-3. "I fell in love with TV. When I interned at Channel 3, I said OK, this is it," said Reynold, who later took a position as a writer and news producer at FOX40. Reynold has gotten close to his new job at ABC10 – literally. He lives next to the station on Broadway in Sacramento. His sister and brother-in-law now live in Folsom, and his parents still live in his childhood home. "My first assignment on TV, it was amazing," Reynold said. "My dad has this huge TV, and my big head came up on TV. He was laughing." Back home, Reynold is interested in the here and now, and being part of the ABC10 team. "TV news and journalism in general is changing all the time, so we're not sure about the long term," he said, "but I still believe that TV news has a future, and I'm going to be in it."
