Folsom Assemblyman named to key role in legislature

State lawmakers are back in session this week after a summer recess, and Assemblyman Josh Hoover (R-Folsom) has already hit the ground running: He was just appointed to serve as the Minority Floor Leader by Republican leadership. Newly selected Assembly Republican Leader Alexandra M. Macedo named Hoover to the position on Monday. In a statement, Hoover said he is honored to take on the new role. "I am excited to get to work in this new position fighting for California families and making our state more affordable," Hoover said. "Our leadership team is fully committed to pushing back against the status quo in Sacramento, bringing down the cost of living, and making government work for everyone." Hoover said he will assist Macedo by organizing opposition to controversial bills and advancing a commonsense policy agenda. "Minority Floor Leader Hoover is trusted and respected by his colleagues. He works tirelessly to protect California families and defend household budgets. From authoring key legislation to rein in skyrocketing utility bills to demanding government transparency, he is steadfast in his mission to ease the cost of living," said Macedo. The lawmakers' return marks the beginning of the final month of this year's legislative session. With the end-of-season deadline approaching, the focus becomes more intense to advance legislation. The legislature has until August 31 to pass bills through both houses before they are sent to Gov. Newsom's desk. Once legislation survives the trip to the governor's desk, he has until September 30 to sign or veto each measure.
