Nicol, Hancock team up for Best Pairs Championship at Fast Fridays Motorcycle Speedway

Championship racing got underway in week 14 at Fast Fridays Motorcycle Speedway in Auburn on Aug. 21. Friday night's action brought the speedway's Best Pairs Championship to the tricky dirt oval. For the second season in a row, the pairs team of Broc Nicol and Wilbur Hancock claimed the championship, scoring 46 points. Russell Green and Chris Kerr placed second with 35 points. The teams raced in five rounds – 15 heat races, two semifinals and the final. The pairs scored four points for a win, three points for second place and two points for third place. It was all scratch racing with each pairs team competing against each other at least once and the start positions switched in each heat. The top scorers advanced to the semifinals and final. Nicol was perfect with five wins and 20 points. Hancock earned 12 points for 32 total. They squared off against Timmy Dion and Danny Faria in the semifinals, who combined 23 points. In a perfect example of team racing, Nicol and Hancock worked together in front of Dion and Faria and combined for seven points to bring their total to 39 to advance to the main event. In the second semifinal, the second-highest scoring team – Chris Kerr and Russell Green with 28 – faced young speedster Brady Landon and Bryan Yarrow, who came into the semifinal with 25. Yarrow fell in turn 1 and Landon won the race for four points, but Kerr and Green finished second and third for five points to move to the final with 33. Nicol and Hancock earned lane choice in the final and chose lanes 2 and 4. Nicol was in the far lane and Hancock in lane 2. Kerr was in lane 3 and Green was on the pole. Nicol and Hancock were in the lead from the gate, Nicol on the outside and Hancock inside. Green and Kerr rode a great race but could not break through the line Hancock and Nicol established. Nicol was the individual high scorer with 27 points. Landon was second with 23. Green finished with 20. Fast Fridays also ran a full program of support and youth divisions, and the ever-popular Pee Wees also ran a few heats. Marc Denniston won the Support D2 Division main event, his third win of the season. Denniston had first- and second-place finishes in his heats. Antonio Coffman was second and Catherine Moore was third in the main event. Sean McAndrew again won the Support D3 Division feature, his fourth this season and second in a row. Sebe Denniston was second and Tim Dion was third. McAndrew placed second in his two heats but was invincible in the main event. Jameson Hutchinson was the winner in the Youth 250cc D1 main event. Hutchinson has won eight main events this season. Wesley Rearick was second and Caden Cavrikas was third. Colton Cooper is on a run in the Youth 250cc D2 division, winning his third main event this season. Cooper has worked on his game in a heated contest with Leeann Emerson since the beginning of the season. Emerson was second and Baylee Evans-Seeley was third. Logan Kerr won his first Youth 150cc D1 main event of the season. Kerr is another rider consistently working on his skills, and it shows on the track. Kerr was second and first in his heats. Kaiden Boyd-Bews was second and Mason Howell was third in the main event. Hank Hanaway won the Youth 150cc D2 feature. Gavin Evans-Seeley was second and Dexter Orlando was third. Kinsley Stephenson won her second Youth 150cc D3 main event in a row. William Bruce was second and Mason Latham was third. Two important notes for the rest of the season: Beginning Aug. 29, the program shifts to Saturday nights to accommodate school schedules. Also, the Extreme Sidecars will return for the fourth round of their series.
