Dunbar named Sierra Nevada Region Governor

Katherine Ellen Dunbar of Auburn is serving a two-year term as Sierra Nevada Region Governor of Soroptimist, a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment. As region governor, Dunbar will serve as the top administrative officer for Soroptimist clubs in her geographical territory, which covers Northern California and Nevada. Dunbar is a member of Soroptimist International of American River, one of 44 Soroptimist clubs in the Region that improve the lives of women and girls through volunteer projects in the community. A member since 2009, Dunbar has held several leadership positions including governor-elect, district director, three nonconsecutive terms as president and various committee chair positions. A statement from the Soroptimist Sierra Nevada Region said Dunbar's "passion reflects her enduring belief in the power of community and the pursuit of leadership to lift others toward their dreams. The members of the Sierra Nevada Region are stellar in their awe-inspiring efforts to empower and uplift women and girls." Dunbar built a career in the construction, design and lighting industries, beginning in lumber retail andkitchen and bath design before advancing into outside sales. She then moved on to the positions of Manufacturer Representative and Regional Sales Manager, collaborating with engineers, architects, designers and public sector clients.
