Roseville K-9 hangs up badge for happy retirement

A cherished K-9 with the Roseville Police Department is officially trading in his badge for a happy retirement. K-9 Rudi is retiring after eight years of dedicated service; he was imported in 2018 and partnered with Officer Mara. As a dual-purpose K-9, Rudi was trained in both Patrol Operations and Narcotics Detection. The Roseville PD said during his career, Rudi had nearly 1,300 deployments, contributing to the arrest of 100 suspects, but his impact went far beyond those numbers. Rudi was also known for his friendly demeanor and was a favorite throughout the Police Department and a star at K-9 demonstrations and community events across the city, said police. When Rudi was new to the department, Mara noticed the dog was suffering from symptoms of bloat and rushed him to the emergency vet. After many hours of surgery and multiple blood transfusions, Rudi was saved and went on to have a successful career despite losing two-thirds of his stomach as well as small portions of a few other organs. After eight years with a successful career, Rudi is ready for a life of leisure and retirement with the Mara family. Roseville PD thanked K-9 Rudi and Mara for their years of dedication to the K-9 Unit.
