Trojans get big win in Texas, 27-26

Oak Ridge was down at halftime, but not out. Trailing 20-7, the Trojans outscored Argyle of Texas 20-6 in the second half to spoil Argyle's first game in their new multi-million dollar football complex in a 27-26 win. Dylan Esten's second rushing touchdown of the game brought the game within six points, but Argyle scored with a little more than seven minutes to play in the game to take a 26-14 lead. They went for two and didn't make it. Sean Gaston scored a rushing touchdown to make it 26-20 with about 2:20 to play and Oak Ridge's defense held Argyle and forced a punt, as the Trojans had the ball with about 1:40 to play in the game. The Trojans drove the ball down the field 60 yards and Ethan Quan scored to tie the game with about 26 seconds to play. Giovanni Accentura's extra point gave the Trojans the one-point victory. Nick Johnson had a strong game for the Trojans, as he completed 23-of-32 passes for 298 yards. Esten rushed for 61 yards of Oak Ridge's 113 rush yards, while Braxton Martinez caught 11 balls for 100 yards and Jack Granrud caught four passes for 129 yards. "It was a great comeback win," Oak Ridge coach Casey Taylor said. "Our line did a good job wearing them down. We had a balanced attack and we got the run game going in the second half. "It was a great atmosphere. There were tons of people and they had a scoreboard bigger than our gym. We saw a lot of stuff in Texas, including Dealey Plaza where President Kennedy was shot. We had a nice barbecue pregame meal. It was a great all-around trip and it was nice to win a game like that, as we've lost the last couple of games where we took a long trip." The Trojans play host to defending state champion Central East on Friday in their home opener. Central East is coming off a solid 42-12 win over Grant. "They're loaded and they're really good," Taylor said. "Nothing will surprise us, though. We'll have to adapt to their speed. They won the state championship last year and we're going to have to beat teams like them if we're going to win a state championship."
