Penryn man arrested for felony firearm, ammunition, stolen gun possession

A search warrant in Penryn led to the recovery of five firearms, large-capacity magazines and ammunition. In a news release issued Wednesday, the Placer County Sheriff's Office Special Operations Detectives served a search warrant at the residence of 34-year-old Gregory Hyde, who was reported to be on active probation at the time of the search. Of the five firearms recovered, at least one was reported to have been stolen within Placer County. The Sheriff's Office reported Hyde is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. He was arrested on Aug. 10 and booked into the Placer County Jail on multiple felony charges including felon in possession of a firearm, prohibited person in possession of ammunition, illegal possession of an assault weapon and possession of a firearm with a previous violent offense conviction. Placer County Jail booking records show that Hyde is still in custody with an upcoming court date set for Sept. 24 at 8:30 a.m. in Department 20 of the Placer County Superior Court in Roseville.
