Intel pivots, decides not to sell Folsom campus

Intel is making a dramatic pivot and has decided to not sell its 162-acre Folsom campus. The company had announced plans to sell the campus on Prairie City Road and lease back a portion of it, but Intel officials changed their mind after analyzing their future road map. A spokesperson from Intel, Nancy Sanchez, told the Folsom Telegraph in a statement that this decision is the result of a strategic reassessment and is not a reflection of the quality or competitiveness of the proposals received. "After careful consideration, Intel has decided not to move forward with the sale and partial leaseback of our Folsom site. We remain committed to the Folsom campus and have determined that retaining our ownership best supports our long-term objectives." said Sanchez. Intel originally announced plans to sell the Folsom campus in an effort to cut costs and make a more cost-effective use of the space. In a statement made Nov. 22, 2024, Intel said it was exploring opportunities to be more efficient. "We are shifting our global real estate strategy to focus on fewer, more populated locations and eliminate underutilized space," said Intel in the statement. "This approach will foster greater in-person collaboration at our largest sites while also delivering cost savings for the company." In 2024, the company also announced plans to reduce its workforce by 15% and over the past several years there have been a series of layoffs at its various campuses.
