Friday Night Forecast: Woodcreek, Sonora meet in NorCal rematch

The schedule stays busy with another slate of important matchups across the Gold Mountain California News Media coverage area. Woodcreek gets a shot at redemption against Sonora after last season's NorCal championship loss, while Whitney and Twelve Bridges meet in a battle of unbeaten teams in Lincoln. Our sports team of Jordan Georgeson, Matt Long and Bill Poindexter make their weekly picks, highlighting 10 games from across the area and giving their two cents on who has the edge. This is our Friday Night Forecast: Valley Christian (0-1) at Florin (0-1) Jordan: I should know better than to pick against the boss' alma mater, but I'm going to do exactly that here. VCA may have started slow but I like the Lions over the Panthers here. VCA 31, Florin 24. Matt: Valley Christian suffered a frustrating loss to Millenium. I don't think that's going to happen this time. Valley Christian 34, Florin 20. Bill: I hope my payroll check clears before Editor Stacey Adams, my former employee and now my boss, sees it. She's a Florin grad. Valley Christian 26, Florin 18. Oak Ridge (1-1) at Irvine-Crean Lutheran (2-1) Jordan: What a schedule Oak Ridge has played so far. This time, the Trojans take their odyssey to SoCal to take on another power. Casey Taylor's mantra has always been "anyone, anytime, anywhere" dating back to his Del Oro days, and this schedule proves it. Unfortunately for the Trojans, I was baptized Lutheran, and I'm not about to commit blasphemy just to win a pick 'em contest. Crean Lutheran 24, Oak Ridge 21. Matt: Both teams are coming off tough losses last week. Oak Ridge's defense gave the Trojans a chance to win, but the offense couldn't make it happen. Crean Lutheran is a very good team from Irvine, playing at home. Crean Lutheran 31, Oak Ridge 21. Bill: Oak Ridge's nonleague schedule includes trips to Texas and now Irvine, but no truth to the rumor the Trojans' SFL opener against Del Oro will be played in Australia. Oak Ridge 28, Crean Lutheran 21. Reed (NV) (1-2) at Vista del Lago (0-2) Jordan: Typically I have picked against Nevada teams when they have made the trip to the Golden State, but I have a hunch the Raiders take this game. Reed 27, Vista 21. Matt: Vista hasn't won a game yet, but I think tonight is the night they put it all together. It won't be easy, though. Vista 28, Reed 27. Bill: A few years ago, some kids from Reed decided to play high school football in Folsom - but it wasn't for Vista. Reed 28, Vista del Lago 14. Folsom (2-0) at Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep (2-0) Jordan: Beating Mission Viejo and Cardinal Newman back to back is no easy feat. I think the Bulldogs can exhale a little bit with this one. Folsom 38, SHCP 21. Matt: After two big wins, the Bulldogs are flying high. Playing their first game on the road won't be a problem. Folsom 48, SHCP 20. Bill: No more picking against Folsom this season, and how can you pick against a team that has 30 players weighing at least 200 pounds on their roster? There are many teams in the area that don't have 30 players total. No problem here for the Bulldogs. Folsom 35, Sacred Heart 21. Del Oro (2-0) at Palo Cedro-Foothill (1-1) Jordan: The Golden Eagles may have just marked themselves as the team to beat in Division II after taking down St. Francis. Lesson learned, I am not going to pick against my alma mater for the foreseeable future. Del Oro 35, Foothill 21. Matt: Del Oro is 2-0 on its way to 3-0. Del Oro 29, Foothill 19. Bill: Two impressive wins so far for Del Oro. Make it three, and enjoy watching Landen Parry's game before he moves on to play on Saturdays. Del Oro 28, Palo Cedro 14. Roseville (2-0) at West Park (1-1) Jordan: The oldest school in town against the newest school in town. Roseville has won in different ways, blanking Antelope in a slug fest and then taking a shootout against Oakmont. West Park is a team trying to find some momentum, and I think the Panthers take a big one here. West Park 23, Roseville 20. Matt: This one will be a close, competitive game. After last week's 17-point come from behind win over Oakmont, it's hard to pick against Roseville, but I've got a gut feeling. West Park 20, Roseville 19. Bill: I'm not one to pick against the new school in town often, but Roseville presents a huge challenge. Roseville 24, West Park 21. Sonora (1-1) at Woodcreek (1-0) Jordan: Woodcreek has had this one circled since that NorCal final loss to the Wildcats last season. Sonora graduated a lot, and Woodcreek brings back most of its team. That will be the difference here. Woodcreek 28, Sonora 24. Matt: This is a non-league game, but Woodcreek wants this win badly after losing to Sonora in the Nor-Cal championship game a year ago. I saw they get it. Woodcreek, 28, Sonora, 21. Bill: Here I am seven games into my picks, and I still don't know how I did last week. It wasn't good, though. Sonora 21, Woodcreek 17. Oakmont (1-1) at Antelope (1-1) Jordan: Both of these teams lost to Roseville, but Oakmont looked a lot more impressive in doing so. I like the Vikings to take this one. SKOL! Oakmont 24, Antelope 23. Matt: Oakmont suffered a devastating loss to Roseville a week ago. Coach Cory Wilson said how a team reacts to adversity is what counts. I say Oakmont rebounds well. Oakmont 35, Antelope 15. Bill: Senior Ocean Munoz had seven catches for 138 yards in Oakmont's season opener. Oakmont 21, Antelope 20. Placer (2-0) at Laguna Creek (1-1) Jordan: The Hillmen have scored early and leaned on their defense, with 23 of their 32 points this season coming in the first quarter. The question is can they do that on the road against a Laguna Creek team that has athletes? I say so. Placer 24, Laguna Creek 17. Matt: Go, fight, win Placer. Placer 33, Laguna Creek 16. Bill: Placer has held Casa Roble and Ripon to a combined 20 points. What does that mean? I don't know. Placer 35, Laguna Creek 20. Whitney (2-0) at Twelve Bridges (2-0) Jordan: This might be the most interesting game of the week as Whitney is much improved and Twelve Bridges is still riding its now 32-game regular season winning streak. These two schools are separated by a housing development and its a nice little rivalry in the making. I love what Whitney is building, but Twelve Bridges has already built it. Twelve Bridges 28, Whitney 27. Matt: Now this should be an interesting game. Whitney is riding a two-game win streak, which hasn't happened often previously. Whitney's got a good defense, but I say 12B scores just enough to win it. Twelve Bridges, 20, Whitney 17. Bill: Instead of traveling the country for nonleague games, Whitney stayed close with games against West Park and Lincoln. The Wildcats should have at least crossed the area code this week.
