Conservation Celebration Week honors Sarah Jones as Placer Conservator of the Year

Placer Land Trust invites the community to two upcoming events celebrating 35 years of land conservation and the people who make their mission possible. Each year, Placer Land Trust honors an individual or group that enhances the quality of life in Placer County through resource conservation with the prestigious Placer Conservator Award. This year, Placer Land Trust will honor Sarah Jones for her dedication to land conservation in the region, and will be recognizing her throughout Conservation Celebration Week, Sept. 22-28. Jones is the executive director of the Placer Resource Conservation District, but she has been working to protect our lands and natural resources for over two decades. Her work has covered a variety of areas including forestry, water resources, wildlife, agriculture and climate change. Jones masterfully brings agencies, landowners, nonprofits and community partners together, and guides projects that improve the health of lands throughout Placer County. "This award is especially meaningful to me because it comes from Placer Land Trust, an organization whose mission is so closely aligned with ours at the Placer Resource Conservation District," said Jones. "Over the years, we've collaborated on multiple projects, shared expertise and resources, and Placer Land Trust has been an amazing partner in helping connect our community to the land, agriculture and conservation happening right here in Placer County. To be recognized as Conservator of the Year by colleagues and friends whose work I respect so deeply makes this honor incredibly special." The Placer Conservator Reception takes place on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at The Flower Farm in Loomis, and will feature appetizers, drinks and the presentation of the Placer Conservator Award. Party on the Preserve takes place on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Placer Land Trust's Laursen Bear River Preserve near Auburn. This family-friendly outdoor event features optional hikes, activities for kids, a food truck (or you can bring your own picnic) and live music with Artemis Arthur and the Messengers. Wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. To make this event accessible to all, there is no set ticket price; attendees are encouraged to make a donation at whatever level is meaningful to them. Conservation Celebration Week also features a week-long online auction, running from Sept. 21-27. Participants can bid on vacation packages, original art, local experiences and much more, all while contributing to the preservation of Placer County's natural beauty.
