Science, Technology, Engineering, Math … STEM in action at next Placer County Navy League meeting

The Placer County Council of the Navy League is meeting Monday, Sept. 21. Navy League members and guests will hear from Bruce Beachamp, an electronics tech with degrees in Electronics Technology, Computational Physics and Computer Science. His career experience includes 13 years with Lockheed Martin, where he worked on US Navy missile and satellite systems, and Savi Technology in Germany, where he designed an automated logistics system which is used worldwide for US munitions. Beachamp began volunteer work with middle school students while in Sonoma. After moving to Auburn, he continued his volunteer work, first at E.V. Cain Middle School, then at Newcastle Elementary Charter School. He will be accompanied by several students from the Newcastle Robotics Club, who will demonstrate some of their projects. The Placer County Council has obtained several STEM grants for Newcastle Charter School. Awarding STEM grants with National Navy League and Placer County Council funding is one way the council works with and supports the community. The Placer County Council of the Navy League of the United States is a civilian organization that supports the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and US Flag Merchant Marine. The Placer County Council, chartered by the national Navy League of the United States in December 1956, has been supporting the Sea Services and community for 70 years. In addition to its 200-plus individual members, the council is supported by three local Community Affiliate Members: TGH Aviation, Lassila Funeral Chapel and Chapel of the Hills. Dinner meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at the Auburn Veterans Memorial Hall, 100 East St. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for a social hour. Dinner and the meeting will begin at 6:30. The catered dinners are $22 per person, so reservations are necessary and may be made by calling Bonnie Potter at 530-823-2820 by Friday, Sept. 18.
