Colfax Lions award science scholarship

The Colfax Lions Club recently honored Mitchell Reedy-Platt with its annual Robby Robinson Scholarship. Reedy-Platt recently completed his first year at Oregon State University en route to a bachelor of science degree in Civil Engineering. The Robinson Scholarship is designed to recognize outstanding scholarship, leadership and community involvement. A 4.3 Colfax High School Grade Point Average, coupled with a frosh year at Oregon State average gpa of 4.0 attests to his academic promise. At Colfax, he was a varsity athlete in soccer, tennis, track and cross country. He was also active in Link Crew (providing guidance to entering frosh), Leos Club (director of events) and Student Council. "Through my college experience, I hope to develop my academic knowledge and become a good engineer," Reedy-Platt said. "More importantly, I want to learn how my knowledge and skills can help me to make the world a better place." Colfax High math instructor Jonathan Schwartz said, "Mitchell is one of the best students I have taught in my 30 years of teaching. He is the kind of person who makes me confident in our future." Justin Heimann, science teacher and coach, said, "Special and unique individuals make lasting impressions, and Mitch will be a permanent fixture in my memories." Ted Huss, Colfax Lions Scholarship Chair, said, "Mitchell has a calm, assured presence that will ensure that he achieves his goals of an Engineering degree and using it to contribute to the community. He is a winner!"
