Native plants workshop series to focus on grass

The public is invited to expand its knowledge and appreciation of native plants through a series of workshops being conducted at Sierra College through a cooperative agreement between the college and the Redbud Chapter of the California Native Plant Society. The next class is Saturday, Sept. 26, at 9 a.m. and will cover native grasses. This is an introductory keying class and all are welcome. Microscopes and all keying resources will be provided. There is much to discover in the diversity of species, natural history and fascinating role of grasses in the ecosystem. These humble and often times overlooked plants are critical to biodiversity, carbon sequestration, soil development, conservation and habitat. Grasslands are the most threatened habitat on earth. Grassland birds are some of the most threatened species on earth. The class will be taught by educator Shawna Martinez and class size is limited.
