National Rehabilitation Awareness Week

The city of Auburn proclaimed Sept. 14–20 as National Rehabilitation Awareness Week, recognizing the professionals who help community members regain function, preserve independence, prevent falls and remain engaged throughout aging, disability and recovery from illness or injury. Mayor Kelley Davis presented the proclamation during a council meeting following a local recognition initiative brought forward by rehabilitation leaders from Auburn Oaks Care Center. Representatives from physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, nursing and skilled nursing leadership attended the presentation. The recognition is particularly meaningful in a community serving a growing older-adult population. Rehabilitation extends beyond recovery after hospitalization or surgery; it can help older adults remain mobile, communicate effectively, reduce fall risk, return home safely, and continue participating in family and community life.
