Ghost gun recovered in Lincoln DUI stop

Around 10 p.m. on Oct. 3, an LPD sergeant made a driving under the influence (DUI) stop in the area of Twelve Bridges Drive and Industrial Avenue. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Chris Castrosuarez, showed signs of impairment. According to the police department, officers had observed a spent shell casing on the driver's floorboard, which led to a search of the vehicle. During the search, officers located a loaded Glock-style "ghost gun." Castrosuarez was arrested for driving under the influence and felony weapons violations, and booked at the South Placer Jail. Arrest records show that Castrosuarez was released from jail on Oct. 4 with no other pending charges. Ghost guns are defined as untraceable, unserialized firearms assembled at home from kits or 3D-printed components that bypass traditional background checks. Law enforcement recoveries of untraceable privately made firearms, or ghost guns, surged nearly 1,600 percent nationwide between 2016 and 2021, including 45,240 suspected privately made firearms reported to ATF as having been recovered by law enforcement from potential crime scenes, according to data from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. "Another gun and dangerous driver off the streets," Lincoln Police shared on Facebook.
