Get a rare look inside Roseville's water system

Roseville water customers will have a rare opportunity to step inside a working groundwater facility during the city's See What's Beneath the Surface: Groundwater Open House on Saturday, Oct. 10. The free, family-friendly event will run from 10 a.m. to noon at 4030 Solaire Drive. Visitors can walk through the site, meet Roseville water professionals, and see how groundwater helps support the community's water supply. Groundwater is an important part of Roseville's water system, say city officials. When water is plentiful, Roseville can store some of it underground for later. When conditions are drier and less surface water is available, that stored water can be brought back into the system. So far in 2026, Roseville has stored nearly 1.8 billion gallons of water underground, enough to meet the annual water needs of about 16,000 Roseville homes annually. The city currently has six groundwater wells in service and two more under construction, with a long-term goal of up to 12 wells. "Groundwater gives us another way to manage our water supply and prepare for changing conditions," said George Hanson, Roseville water utility manager. "This open house is a great opportunity for customers to see some of that infrastructure firsthand, meet the people who operate it, and better understand the work that goes into keeping water reliable for our community." Groundwater is also one of the sources Roseville uses for drinking water. Like all water delivered to customers, it is monitored to make sure it meets water quality standards. The Solaire groundwater facility is normally closed to the public. During the open house, staff will be available throughout the site to answer questions and explain how the system works. Kids activities and light refreshments will also be available.
