Valley Christian loses to Foresthill, 28-14

Valley Christian played Foresthill tight on Friday night, but in the end couldn't score enough points and lost the game, 28-14. The loss dropped Valley Christian's record to 2-4 overall and to 1-2 in Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League, while Foresthill improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the league. Valley Christian never led, but trailed closely, 8-7 and 22-14, but could never get closer. Yomiyeh Boma scored the team's first points on a kickoff return for a touchdown. Kurt Haase later threw a touchdown pass to Domminic Eyster and the half ended with Valley Christian trailing 22-14. Foresthill scored one more touchdown in the fourth quarter to end the game. Valley Christian had one last chance to score inside the five-yard line, but came up short. While Valley Christian coach Doug Williams was disappointed to lose, he felt his team played well against a very good opponent. "It was a good game for us," Williams said. "Foresthill was the runner-up to section champion last season. They scored 71 points last week and we held them to 28. We made some mistakes that left some points on the field, but we made less mistakes than we did the previous week against Encina. We improved and played better this week and that's what you want to do is to improve. I'm proud of my team." Williams said that Ricky Williams played well on both sides of the ball, while Daniel Fourie had a solid defensive game. The Lions had high hopes that a very good season was ahead of them two months ago, but are only 2-4 through six games. "We had a great spring and had a different feeling about the team," Williams said. "Expectations were high. Our results have not been what we were dreaming of, but the kids are still enjoying the process and that's cool to see. They're not burnt out or feeling down." Foresthill plays at Mira Loma on Friday night, while Valley Christian travels to Adventure Christian.
