Murchison leads Woodcreek over Christian Brothers, 55-7

After missing a few games to illness, Trace Murchison was back in the lineup for Woodcreek High on Friday night and made a big impact on the game. Murchison caught five passes for 76 and a touchdown and also had a 99-yard pick-six in leading the Timberwolves to a 55-7 win over Christian Brothers. Right from the start of the game, the Woodcreek senior was ready to make an impact. On Woodcreek's first play from scrimmage, Murchison took a pitch from quarterback Dylan England and ran around the right side for five yards. On the next play, England found Murchison for a 37-yard touchdown pass. Moments later, he picked off a pass at the one-yard line and returned it all the way for a score and Woodcreek had a 14-0 lead less than four minutes into the game. "I would entitle the article 'The return of Trace Murchison,'" Woodcreek coach Kyle Stowers said. "He made an impact right away. DJ Mosley did a good job stepping in for Trace, but Trace was back to his old self on Friday. It was good to see him back." Murchison wasn't the only Timberwolve to play a good game. As the final score indicates, several if not nearly all the Woodcreek players who stepped on the field played well. Woodcreek led 49-0 at halftime and none of the starters played in the second half. Woodcreek quarterback Dylan England threw two touchdown passes, one to Murchison and one to Ethan Keim. As a team, Woodcreek rushed for 215 yards with Caden Cook leading the way with 70 yards rushing. Five other rushers had at least 20 yards rushing. Jeremiah Whyte scored two touchdowns, while Keim, England and Camdyn Jones also scored on running plays. "Cam Jones scored his first touchdown of the year so that was nice to see and our third string quarterback, Blake Hastings, it was exciting to see him get some reps," Stowers said. "We played well, controlled the game and dominated. We had extremely short fields. It was our third game in a row with a pick-six, and I was happy with how our defense tackled." The Timberwolves (7-0 overall, 3-0 in league) now turn their attention to Vista del Lago, who they play on the road on Friday. The Eagles (3-4, 2-2) nearly upset Inderkum on Friday night before losing 29-27. "Vista was a couple plays away from winning that game," Stowers said. "They're playing their best football of the season right now and I'm expecting a challenge."
