Vista flag finishes regular season with nine straight wins

Vista del Lago's varsity girls' flag football team finished the regular season with nine straight wins, wrapping it up Wednesday with a 20-0 win on the road at Ponderosa. Ever since being blanked at Christian Brothers on Sept. 14, 12-0, the Eagles have been unbeatable. The team is looking forward to the playoffs, despite garnering a disappointing 10th seed in the Division 2 playoffs. "I thought we'd be ranked higher, but it doesn't matter," Vista del Lago coach Jason Navarre said. "We've got to play who they put in front of us. "We are excited for the playoffs and believe we are contenders for a title. The playoffs are going to be great this year. The Division 2 playoff bracket is absolutely stacked with great teams, they're all going to be tough opponents." In the win over Ponderosa, Vista quarterback Becca Lemos threw for 212 yards and three touchdown passes to Brooke Ferry, Kalysta Benasa and Cadyn Nettleton. Nettleton had seven catches for 105 yards, while Ferry caught six balls for 76 yards. Defensively, Mari Waiters had 11 flag pulls. "I feel like the team finished the season strong and made some good strides on the offensive side of the ball," Navarre said. "Our defense has played well all year and continues to play strong. "We had a strong end to the season, finishing with nine straight wins. The improvements we've seen are a testament to the focus and hard work the athletes have put in."
