Del Oro parts ways with softball coach Sean Erickson after championship run

Del Oro softball coach Sean Erickson, who guided the Golden Eagles to back-to-back CIF NorCal championships, is no longer with the program. Del Oro athletic director John Hilton confirmed the decision, saying school administrators evaluated the softball program at both the varsity and junior varsity levels before deciding to make a coaching change. "We just looked at the development of our program overall, junior varsity and varsity, and just felt like there are certain areas that we wanted to go in a different way and change it a little bit," Hilton said. Hilton said administrators met with Erickson last week to inform him of the decision. He described Erickson as professional throughout the conversation and said the school asked him to wait two days before publicly discussing his departure so administrators could meet with the team and notify the Del Oro community. Erickson's departure comes after another successful season for Del Oro, which finished 23-8 and shared the Sierra Foothill League championship with Whitney. The Golden Eagles also reached the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II championship game before capturing their second consecutive NorCal title. Erickson was recently named a co-Coach of the Year by Gold Mountain California News Media alongside Whitney coach April Steele, recognizing the two coaches for their teams' success and their roles in one of the region's top softball rivalries. He was named the 2025 Cal-Hi Sports Softball Coach of the Year after leading Del Oro to the CIF NorCal Division I championship, a No. 1 state ranking and a No. 10 national ranking by MaxPreps. Under Erickson, Del Oro established itself as one of the area's premier programs, competing for league and postseason championships while building a consistent presence in the NorCal playoffs. The circumstances surrounding Erickson's departure, including the reason for the move and who will lead the program moving forward, were not immediately available. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
