Early election results: 9 votes separate candidates in tight PUHSD school board race

As of Wednesday, Nov. 4, just a nine-vote margin separated Kim Barry and Carrie Featherston in the race for Placer Union High School District's Trustee Area 2 seat, while two other school board contests were more clear cut following the Nov. 3 General Election. Barry received 2,209 votes (49.85%) to Featherston's 2,200 (49.65%), according to Placer County election results posted late Tuesday night. With all 24 precincts reporting, Barry held a lead of just 0.20 percentage points in one of the closest local races. The margin represents a dramatic shift from the initial results Tuesday evening, when Barry led Featherston by 152 votes. As additional ballots were counted, Featherston steadily closed the gap, bringing the contest to within single digits. The race remained too close to call, with additional ballots potentially affecting the outcome. The elections office was scheduled to release update results Friday afternoon, after the Auburn Journal's weekend press deadline. In Trustee Area 3, Jessica Spaid held a 548-vote advantage over Tricia Caspers. Spaid received 2,646 votes (55.44%), compared with 2,098 (43.96%) for Caspers. Spaid's lead grew considerably from the first results Tuesday night, when she held an advantage of 119 votes. Emerson Lake also held a sizable lead in Trustee Area 4, receiving 2,948 votes (53.65%) to David Lawrenson's 2,529 (46.02%). Lake led by 419 votes with all 24 precincts reporting. The three contests are part of the Placer Union High School District governing board election, which will determine representation across three trustee areas. Although all precincts have reported, the results remain unofficial as Placer County continues its post-election ballot counting and verification process. The number of ballots still outstanding has not been established from the available results. The district's governing board oversees district policy, budget matters and superintendent evaluation, while day-to-day operations are handled by district administration.
