Details emerge in El Dorado County prosecutor's DUI arrest

The El Dorado County prosecutor who allegedly drove to work intoxicated last month submitted blood alcohol readings of 0.124 and 0.126 at the time of her arrest, according to a report recently released by the California Highway Patrol.Gloria M. Mas, 47, of El Dorado Hills, was reportedly placed under arrest in District Attorney Vern Pierson's personal office, after failing four sobriety tests conducted by a CHP officer.The officer had responded to the DA's Office after being called out by another CHP officer who works as an investigator at the office. That officer reported he saw Mas drive her BMW into the parking lot and later, along with others in the office, witnessed her display signs and symptoms of intoxication.When the responding officer met with Mas in Pierson's office, he states in the report that he detected a strong odor of alcohol from her breath, as well as red/watery eyes and slightly-slurred speech. Mas reportedly admitted to drinking two vodka tonics at home between noon and 1 p.m., prior to returning to work. According to the report, she stands 5-foot, 1-inch and weighs 105 pounds.After conducting the sobriety tests, the officer reportedly placed Mas under arrest and, citing the "sensitivity and nature of the circumstances," allowed her to walk to his vehicle, where she was handcuffed and placed in the front seat of the patrol car.A second "breathalyzer" test was reportedly performed at the jail prior to Mas being released on $2,500 bail.The District Attorney's Office has yet to comment on the status of Mas' position as deputy DA.
