Kitchen fire causes $65,000 in damage

A kitchen fire damaged a Folsom home Monday.At 1:46 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, firefighters from Folsom Fire Department and Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded to a single alarm structure fire inside a manufactured home in the 200 block of Bluebird Lane in Folsom.Investigators believe the cause of the fire was related to cooking. No one was injured during the fire; however, damage to the house is estimated at about $65,000.In total, four engines companies, one truck company, one heavy rescue company, one paramedic ambulance and two chief officers were dispatched to the scene. Approximately 24 fire fighters and six companies arrived on scene. Other resources used during the fire include SMUD and PG&E.Firefighters from Folsom Fire Station 36 arrived about 7 minutes after the first 9-1-1 call to find smoke coming from the rear of the home.As crews entered the home they discovered that a fire in the kitchen had extended into the attic space.Firefighters immediately began an offensive fire attack to prevent the spread of the fire into the remaining areas of the home and adjacent homes, according to officials.The fire was fully contained within 30 minutes.According to officials, residents should stay in the kitchen while frying, grilling or broiling food.People should always turn off the stove after leaving the kitchen while cooking, for even a short period of time, according to officials.Fire officials also suggest having a fire extinguisher nearby.~ Laura Newell
